Viewing Windows Media Video files

Most Windows XP systems can view these with no problems. Linux users can use mplayer to view .wmv files. Windows Media Player is free from Microsoft and you likely already have it on your Windows 98,NT,2000,XP box. If you don't have it, you can download it from

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia

It has been noticed that Windows NT systems have different Windows Media Player than Windows 98/2000/XP but still you should be able to view the video on NT.

The Media Player program may need to contact Microsoft and download a new video decompressor.  This is done automatically by Windows Media Player, but you just need to make sure that your system is online and that the firewall permits the downloading of the new decompressor. It may be necessary to temporarily shut down your firewall in order for Windows Media Player to update itself.  Contact your system administrator if you think you are having firewall problems.

Viewing Macromedia Shockwave Flash files

Both platforms should be able to open .swf files. The Flash player or browser plugin can be obtained from:
